In 2020 there were over 7,000 samples of mosquitos that were tested for West Nile Virus. Out of those numerous samples, approximately 99 came back positive for the virus. Two of which were samples collected from Westwood Massachusetts. The press release by the Westwood Board of Health simply urged residents of Westwood and its surrounding areas to be cautious of mosquitoes due to their history of carrying the virus. This announcement was in response to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health confirming Tuesday that the virus had indeed been detected in that area.
