On August 4th, the Westwood Board of Health sent an email to the town residents concerning the imperative need for mosquito control in MA during the 2020 season.
The email came after the town was informed of neighboring risks. Residents were told that mosquitoes found in Needham, MA, have tested positive for West Nile Virus. This announcement came after the previous day’s news of a young boy testing positive for EEE in Middleborough.
With the early arrival of mosquito disease and the recent announcements of confirmed sickness, preventative mosquito control is crucial this year. In past years, the risk level has remained low to moderately low, but this year the level has risen to moderate.
MA mosquito control practices
One of the best methods of protecting your family is to consider professional mosquito control services. This type of service helps to protect your property through surveys and treatments. Areas are inspected for both natural and ornamental elements that may attract a mosquito population – such as pools of water. After inspection, your team of professionals will create a safe plan for your family and your needs.
Beyond professional treatments, there are a variety of preventative measures you can take as well. From removing items around your yard that hold water to mosquito repellent, there is no measure too big this year.
Transmitted mosquito disease
Beyond EEE and West Nile Virus, mosquitos are known carriers of many other diseases as well. Zika is one, in particular, that is extremely dangerous for pregnant women. Dengue fever, encephalitis, malaria, and yellow fever are a few more mentionables when it comes to transmitted disease.
